Academic Policies

Student Terminology:

  • Block: 8 weeks
  • Semester/Term: 16 weeks (Two 8-week blocks)
  • Full time student: A student who is enrolled in two (2) classes per 8-week block for a full semester/term (16-weeks)

Satisfactory Progress for Financial Aid

Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress to receive financial aid. The United States Department of Education requires students to maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) in order to receive financial aid.

Satisfactory progress also requires that full-time students complete enough credits each semester/term to be able to graduate within six years. In addition, federal and state policies require that students take a minimum of 12 academic credits in any given semester/term to be considered a full-time student for financial aid purposes.

Students who have been placed on financial aid probation for any two consecutive semesters/terms will be ineligible for financial aid at the beginning of the third consecutive semester on probation. Students will remain ineligible for financial aid until they are removed from probation, and have met satisfactory academic progress of a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Please note that financial aid probation and academic probation are different. Please see the Academic Policies section of the school catalog for academic probation information.

Academic Warning

Students whose semester grade point average falls below 2.00 will receive an academic warning. Student grade reports and transcripts reflect the warning status. Students are informed of this action by letter and by email from the school.

Students who are on academic warning must adhere to the following:

  • Enroll in 12 – 16 credit hours
  • Repeat all failed courses that are part of General Education Requirement or are required for their majors
  • Make contact with their academic advisors at least once per month during the semester/term

Academic Probation

Students will be placed on academic probation at the end of any semester/term (16 weeks) when students’ cumulative grade point averages (for all credits attempted at St. Andrews University and/or Webber International University) fall below the following minimum standards:

  • 1.59 for those students having attempted up to 12 credit hours
  • 1.85 for those students having attempted 13 – 24 credit hours
  • 1.93 for those students having attempted 25 – 36 credit hours
  • 1.97 for those students having attempted 37 – 48 credit hours
  • 2.00 for those students having attempted 49 or more credit hours

Student grade sheets and transcripts state a student is on probation and both a letter and an email are sent from the Chief Academic Officer to the student defining academic restrictions.

Students on academic probation must adhere to the following:

  • Enroll in 12-16 credit hours (school and courses permitting)
  • Repeat all failed courses that are part of General Education requirement or are required for their majors as offered
  • Make contact with their academic advisors at least once per month during the semester/term
  • Develop a written contract (academic plan) for the semester in consultation with the Associate Dean of Online Learning and their academic advisor

Academic Dismissal

Students on probation who fail to meet the probation requirements will be subject to academic dismissal by the Academic Standing Committee, for unsatisfactory progress toward the attainment of their degree. The school will inform students of this action by letter and by email.

*Any student earning less than a 1.00 GPA based on hours attempted in any semester is subject to academic dismissal.

Reinstatement

Students academically dismissed who can provide evidence of academic rehabilitation (- can we include a brief clause on this document as to what academic rehabilitation entails? )may apply for reinstatement to the University six months after their dismissal. Students will need to complete new enrollment applications and write a letter of appeal addressed to the Academic Standing Committee.
